I must be missing something. Seriously.
I’ve dated my fair share of recovering alcoholics, and remember many of the policies of the organization pretty well. One was anonymity; and the whole “Britney met this guy at an AA meeting and they are moving in together” bit that’s making the rounds today has me a bit agog.
Right from the AA web site, I found the following:
“An A.A. member may, for various reasons, “break anonymity” deliberately at the public level. Since this is a matter of individual choice and conscience, the Fellowship as a whole obviously has no control over such deviations from tradition. It is clear, however, that such individuals do not have the approval of the overwhelming majority of members.”
There was also a bit about not getting involved in any new romantic relationships the first year of recovery while you get your shit together, but I can’t find it on their web site.
At any rate, you can imagine that I was a little bit confused when I saw an “exclusive” interview on TMZ with Jason Filyaw, the rumored new love interest. He doesn’t come right out and say they are dating, but says he “loves” her* and that while they met in 2003, they kept in touch. However, he goes on to say they “met up again at an LA AA meeting.”
So, we have a) one addict outing another addict… seems to be in violation of the whole anonymous thing, and um, doesn’t seem like that’s “individual choice” seeing as Filyaw did it for Britney; b) one addict getting involved with another addict, which seems pretty slimy, you know, considering she isn’t even done with her stint in rehab; and c) the usual, expected, and, at this point, cliche of someone who even talks to Britney for 30 seconds going immediately to the press to talk about her.
So, while he may seem to be in the 15 minutes category with other notable Britney tattletales like Isaac Cohen and that guy she was married to for 20 minutes, this one has the added asshat factor of, you know, going against everything AA is supposed to stand for. The good folks over at Fark have a phrase they enjoy addressing to losers like this one… it’s known as DIAF.**
* loosely translated into non-Hollywood English, this means “loves being a mediawhore by talking about her”

I have another one: SMFTSA (save me from this Spears affliction). Because I can’t seem to save myself. Yep, another asshat. She thinks it’s a good idea to shop the scratch and dent sale because why?
And did anybody think to tell her that some people should never, ever be bald?
At what point do you think she will realize that anyone she talks to is probably going to go to the media?
Well then, do you think she minds that? As soon as she stops being the day’s headline, she goes and shaves her head, or shows off her crotch, so I am thinking that publicity may not bother her. I could be wrong.
This is true. One would hope that rehab is curing some of that addiction to press-no matter-what-kind, but I really think after this whole thing she’s going to end up another Anna Nicole.
God forbid. Looking at older pictures of her, when she looked just like a happy, cute young girl, makes me feel sad.
I think that was just an act, too. There is NO WAY you can raise a kid in the industry and have them come out normal without a HELLUVA lot of therapy.
