I think that there is a very fine line walked by celebrity blogs and news sites, and occasionally, that gets crossed, like it did when TMZ posted what was alleged to be a voice mail message left by Alec Baldwin on his daughter’s cell phone.
Would I have gone with it? No, I can say that I wouldn’t have. It could only have been leaked by Kim Basinger’s camp, and Kim has seemingly decided that since she doesn’t have much of an acting career left, she’s going to be a full-time angry ex-wife.
Mind you, both of them need to grow up, but Basinger seems to me to work that child as hard as she can to get back at Baldwin, and it shows. When I first heard about it, I was in shock, but after reading it on every site under the sun, I realized that there’s probably a LOT more to the story.
First off, the child is what? Eleven? And she has her own cell phone? I’m betting that’s paid for by Daddy to make sure that she can take his calls and doesn’t have to be passed through Basinger. Then you have the fact that the phone calls are probably set up on a certain schedule because that’s the only time Ex-Wife Dearest will allow it, and that if he DOESN’T call, she goes into the judge and says that her ex isn’t bother to call his daughter. So you have Daddy footing the bill on a cell phone for a pre-teen, who probably racks up the minutes calling every single friend to shriek about Sanjaya. He’s also got a busy schedule seeing as he’s actually working to pay the alimony and child support and ridiculous legal fees over this custody battle that’s lasted WAY longer than their marriage, and probably holding up people on the set of his sitcom to call his daughter who then didn’t take Daddy’s call, either because she was too busy talking to her friends or because she’s been instructed by Mommy to make Daddy sweat a little.
Sure, the guy’s got anger issues, but when is the last time anyone passing judgment has been around an 11-year-old? They can be some obnoxious little shits when they want to be. And while I know that the dads in a divorce usually get a bad rap, I’ve seen the moms do some pretty awful things when they want to get back at their exes, yet they never seem to get vilified the way that men do. I think that leaking that cell phone call, authentic or not, was a low thing to do, especially when people don’t have the context of what might have led up to it. I think TMZ were low for running it. And I have to give Alec Baldwin credit. If I were him, I’d have given up a long time ago, sent the checks on schedule, and just not given Kim Basinger what she obviously wants: his attention.

I heard the tape this morning when my alarm went off - not what I wanted to hear at 6:30. Or ever- the anger in his voice was awful, and while I can understand being frustrated, saying those things to any child is beyond horrible. Saying them to his own child is something that will be with her for the rest of her life no matter how many cool toys daddy buys her. I think someone’s a pig in this story, and it isn’t the daughter.
:(
That kid is already going to need massive counseling. And Daddy didn’t buy her a cool toy… he bought her a phone because Mommy won’t let him talk to his kid. Check out the FULL history of Mommy as the wackadoo (she still has a hearing coming up on contempt charges from not abiding by the court-ordered visitation policy and “hides” the poor kid from him). They are both wrong, but I’m not about to paint him as the bad guy.
I agree with you and the other bloggers who fall into the alec camp - Kim has been a twit for a long time about this kid, and I think we are hearing YEARS of frustration pour out.
I couldn’t AGREE more. I love Alec, and so what if he yelled at his snot faced daughter that wont return his calls. Jeeze. I should have lost custody of my own son if yelling at badly behaved children is a crime!
His voicemail was nasty but this was a major violation of his privacy. His behavior is inexcusable but this is an issue that should remain private.
