When it comes to casting things in Hollywood, I’m no longer sure how it works. My two working theories are that people are cast, and then lie about it for a while, OR that people AREN’T cast, but a rumor on the Intarweb starts up and if it takes off and seems popular, directors go for it.
First, we had Heather Mills rumored to be on Dancing with Stars. Everyone denied it, then she claims she got a call AFTER the whole ‘Net rumor mill had a field day. I’m kind of wondering if the same thing happened with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. First, rumor had it that Shia LaBeouf was going to be in the upcoming Indiana Jones flick. He denied it. Now George and Stevie have confirmed that he IS going to be in the movie.
I’ve gotta admit, this is almost unheard of for George Lucas, who casts at MOST one person per firm with any acting skills. Of course, he had several in Phantom Menace, but he killed Liam Neeson off pretty quickly, and never did get Natalie Portman to amount to much in what had to be her worst acting of her career. We’ll see how well he does with Shia, who is still Louis Stevens from Disney Channel, no matter how many movies he’s made since.
